Tinea Infections

The same fungal infection, showing up differently depending on where on the body it occurs.

New itchy, ring-shaped, or scaly patch?

A spreading, itchy patch with a defined edge -- on the body, feet, or groin -- is a classic tinea presentation worth evaluating.

Infection that keeps returning?

Recurring tinea usually points to incomplete treatment duration or an untreated source like footwear, worth addressing directly.

What Is It?

Tinea infections are fungal skin infections that present differently depending on the body site involved: tinea corporis (commonly known as ringworm) on the body, tinea pedis (athlete’s foot) on the feet, and tinea cruris (jock itch) in the groin. All three are caused by the same category of fungus and are treated with the same general antifungal approach, though the specific location can affect product choice and treatment duration.

The most common reason these infections seem to recur is stopping treatment too early once visible symptoms improve, or reinfection from an untreated source like contaminated footwear or shared towels — continuing treatment for the full prescribed duration is the single most important factor in preventing this.

Treatment

  • Topical Antifungal Therapy: Effective for most localized infections when used for the full prescribed duration, even after visible symptoms improve.
  • Oral Antifungal Therapy: Considered for widespread or resistant infections not responding adequately to topical treatment.
